What happened
Damage to several subsea cables off the West African coast left many countries in the region with little or no international connectivity. Relays in Accra, Abidjan, Lagos and Dakar stayed up but could reach the rest of the network only slowly, and for several days delivery to and from the region was slow and sometimes delayed by hours.
Messages sent during this time were held and delivered as connections returned. Glossia was designed for exactly this kind of week. It was still a hard one for the people living through it.
